Members may remember that at the end of the 2017/18 season, the Company went to the Korda Studios in Budapest to film Romeo and Juliet. We had announced that this would be discussed during our meeting with young dancers at the start of last season, but were informed by the Press Office at the ROH that this was under an embargo. It has now been announced that it will receive its premiere in Curzon cinemas on December 16th, before being shown on the BBC over Christmas.
Filmed by former Royal Ballet Principals Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, it stars Francesca Hayward and William Bracewell, with Matthew Ball as Tybalt, Marcelino Sambé as Mercutio, James Hay as Benvolio, Tomas Mock as Paris, Romany Pajdak as Nurse, Christopher Saunders and Kristen McNally as Lord and Lady Capulet.
The film is scheduled for 90 minutes, so must involve some cuts from the original.
