Sixteen members and their friends and family spent a very informative Monday morning on 8 July 2019 listening to and questioning Rawden Pettitt, Associate Director of Stanton Williams the architectural practice awarded the Open Up project. Those taking part came away with a better understanding of, amongst other things, why there is no escalator on the café floor (because of all the service machinery underneath the floor), the full scope and flexibility of the Linbury theatre and the nail biting seconds for the structural engineers who had allowed a 5 mm movement when a load bearing beam was removed (it moved 1.5 mm) to literally open up a space. All challenges overcome in one way or another, while keeping the Opera House open and not losing a single performance. The biggest challenge of all!
