    We congratulate Royal Ballet Guest Artist David Hallberg on his appointment as Artistic Director of Australian Ballet. Because of this, he was replaced in his first scheduled performance in Swan Lake by First Soloist Reece Clarke.

    Members will be excited to hear that Wayne McGregor is choreographing a new three-act ballet based on three novels by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Floodand Maddaddan.The ballet, MADDADDAM,a joint production with The National Ballet of Canada, will premiere in Canada this November and with The Royal Ballet in 2022.

    A small exhibition of photographs of Birmingham Royal Ballet entitled Lachlan Monaghan Backstage was at the RBSA gallery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Soloist Lachlan Monaghan was a former recipient of one the Association’s Royal Ballet School Awards.

    Johan Kobborg’s production of Romeo and Julietstarring former Royal Ballet Principals Alina Cojocaru and Sergei Polunin was scheduled to be performed at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 14th April. It is hoped that a new date will be found for a performance next season.

    Those of you with long memories will be saddened to hear of the death in Vienna of Argentinian born ballerina Irina Borowska who danced with the Ballet Russes de Monte Carlo and, in the 1960s, with London Festival Ballet.

    Company Wayne McGregor was scheduled to join dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Royal Ballet dancing at The Grange Festival in Hampshire on 10-11 July. The programme was to include new works by former Royal Ballet dancer Gemma Bond and Mthuthuzeli November. As previously announced, Gemma is also creating a new work for Ballet Nacional de Cuba. It was programmed to premiere at the International Festival in Havana this October, but may now be delayed.
