On 9th November 2021, we are delighted to welcome Senior Répétiteur and Principal Character Artist Gary Avis as our guest. A regular guest at our meetings and annual dinners since he joined the Company in 1989, Gary is always popular with people and will provide an entertaining evening.
Since the start of the season, he has been busy as Lord Capulat and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet and as Virgil in The Dante Project. Prior to lockdown he made his debut as Dr Coppélius, as well as performing Prince Gremin and Edward Elgar. In 2019 he was awarded the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Outstanding Male Classical Performance. On the board of Dance East, Gary supports a wide variety of charitable causes, mainly in Suffolk and was made an MBE in 2018.
At this meeting we shall be electing Honorary Officers and Committee Members. The Committee for 2020- 21 season was David Bain (Chairman and Organising Secretary), Liz Atkins (Membership Secretary and Joint Deputy Chairman), Ann Dawson (Joint Deputy Chairman), Melanie Shipton (Treasurer), Liz Bouttell (Reporting Secretary), Ann Maclennan (Events Secretary), Rachel Holland, Chiara Gorodesky, Roger Handley, Jacqui Sporle, Linda Gainsbury, Paul Pan and Yurika Yamagata. Our Website Administrator Mark Clarke is co-opted onto the committee for discussions about the site.
On 8th December 2021, it is a great pleasure to welcome Royal Ballet Principal Francesca Hayward as our guest. After the Opening Night of this season as Juliet, Francesca has danced as one of the Beatrices in Acts 2 & 3 of The Dante Project as well as various roles in Inferno. Soon she will be seen as Giselle and The Sugar Plum Fairy.
Since joining The Royal Ballet during the 2010/11 Season, Francesca has performed roles across the Company repertoire, as well as appearing in the film of Cats and a variety of photo shoots. Having won Best Emerging Artist at the 2014 Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards, she has since won the Best Female Dancer Award in both 2016 and 2019.
